On November 7th Sycamore
Creek Church
turns ten-years-old. We'll be ten years deep, but Jesus calls those who
follow him to always go deeper. Deeper in faith. Deeper in maturity.
Deeper in love. When talking to Peter he says, "Put out into the
deep water and let down your nets for a catch" (Luke 5:4). Going
deeper is sometimes scary, but it makes us trust more in God. Begining
October 17th we'll begin our six-week 20 Years Deep capital campaign, a
campaign to celebrate ten years and plan for ten. Right now we're ten
years deep. How deep will we be in twenty? Join us out in the deep
water.

Following the second service we'll share a meal (bring a dish to pass)
and at 1:00pm we'll have our fall visioning meeting combined with our

campaign, 20 Years Deep, at this vision meeting, and our District
Superintendent, Bob Hundley, will be joining us. All are invited to
come.

Men's Events
The men of SCC got together two
weeks ago to play yard games, to eat meat, and to talk
about accountability. We had a great time and 14 men were
"sharpened" by attending. Ask one of the guys who
attended what they learned! What's next for the men of SCC?
On Saturday, October 23 the men of SCC will be getting together
again for a Rake n' Run. Meet at the church office at 9am with your
rake and gloves and we'll be going into some neighborhoods to serve our
community by cleaning up leaves. We'll be in fellowship together as
we rake leaves at one house and then "run" to
the next yard. Bring a friend and we'll all serve together.
After serving together we'll eat lunch together at the church
office. Other future dates to note are Saturday, November 20 for a
men's breakfast and Saturday, December 4 for a men's event to be
determined.

20 Years Deep
continued...
First, we've set up a website www.20yearsdeep.org that has
all the info about the campaign that you could want. Specifically,
we have posted a brochure on the site (and we've snail mailed it to you
too) that cover the basics. This campaign sits within a five-point
ten-year vision. The money raised by the campaign will be used for
five different things. All of this is highlighted in the brochure
and explored in further detail on the site. Will you take some time
to read through the brochure and become familiar with 20 Years Deep?
Second, we will be hosting gatherings
during the first two weeks of November. They will take place in
various members' homes and one or two will be at Lansing Christian School
or the church office. More details on how to sign up for these will
be coming. At these gatherings you will be asked to
make your family's three-year confidential pledge toward 20 Years Deep. This is a pledge
that is above and beyond your yearly giving to the church. Will you
take some time to think and pray and discuss with your family what kind
of a pledge you can make so that when you come to the gathering, you will
be ready to make a pledge?
On Sunday, November 21st
we'll celebrate the results of 20 Years Deep. To reach our
goal of $500,000, each of us will have to give sacrificially. To
provide a building for not only ourselves but also our community and the
future growth of our church is going to take each of us giving in ways
that we may not have given in the past. The sacrifice may be big,
but because we're ultimately talking about lives and souls touched and
transformed, the results are of eternal significance. Now that's
deep.
Peace,
Tom

Membership Classes
Explore Commitment to SCC
Commitment is essential to growth
of any kind, and commitment to a community of fellow travelers is
essential to spiritual growth. Are you interested in exploring
taking the next step of commitment at SCC
by exploring membership? We have two steps
of membership. The first step is Participating Membership
(commitment to participating at SCC). The second is
Navigating Membership (commitment to taking some responsibility for
navigating your own spiritual journey). We're planning membership
exploration classes this fall around the availability of those who
are interested. If you're interested, contact the
church office.

Support Group
SCC Support Group
A
new kind of small group has begun this fall for adults attending
SCC. It is for people who are struggling with daily life
stressors to come together with others who are struggling and to
share and support each other through the power of the Holy
Spirit. It is for the people of SCC to feel and to really know that
they are not alone, that they are loved and can find support through
their church and in God, no matter what they are going through.
ˇ This
support group could help people struggling with loss and grief,
unemployment, relationship difficulties, addictions,
aging parents, raising teenagers, depression, anxiety, etc...
ˇ People
can come to as many groups as they want or when they feel the need.
ˇ Confidential,
safe, supportive atmosphere.
ˇ One
male and one female leader.
Wednesday
evenings from 7-8:30pm at the church office. For more information contact
Pat Orme at 410-1931 and leave a message.
